Protest set for Beirut, Lebanon, on September 9

Leaders of Lebanon’s “You Stink” movement have called for protests on Wednesday, September 9, at 18:00 (6:00 pm) near Nejmeh Square to coincide with a national dialogue session.

Advice

Travellers in Beirut should avoid the area around Nejmeh Square on Thursday. Protests turned violent last Tuesday when a group staged a sit-in at the Ministry of the Environment. To minimize safety risk, always avoid large public gatherings or protests since even peaceful rallies can turn violent quickly and unexpectedly.
