Protesters clash with police in Brussels, Belgium

As today’s demonstration in Brussels is winding down, some protesters have clashed with police, who have responded with water cannon.

At least 81,000 people turned out to protest the government anti-austerity measures. The march began at Brussels’ North Station and continued through the streets to Cellebroerstraat and Lemonnier. Authorities advise to continue to avoid these areas.

The unions will continue with plans for a rail strike on Friday, which is expected to affect international Eurostar and Thalys rail services.
