Protests and deadly confrontations in Yemen

Near the city of Amran, 12 people were killed in clashes between Yemeni forces and Shia rebels, known as Houthis or Ansarullah. The conflict began during a demonstration when the protesters crossed a check point with weapons. Two civilians were included among the dead.

Meanwhile in the capital Sana’a, protesters organized an anti-government demonstration to demand that the country’s former dictator be charged and tried for killing pro-democracy demonstrators in 2011.

Several countries advise their citizens to avoid all travel to Yemen due to political instability and sporadic armed conflict.
