Protests in Brazil - Update

Protests continued today in Brazil with about 1000 people demonstrating outside Rio de Janeiro's Maracana football stadium where the opening game of the Confederations Cup match is being held. Police used pepper spray and tear gas to attempt to disperse the protesters before the game, and at least 39 people have been injured.

Some fans had difficulty reaching the stadium due to the disturbance. Travellers should always avoid public gatherings and demonstrations in foreign countries as the situation can become violent without warning.
