Protests in Budapest, Hungary, May 20-21, 2017

The U.S. Embassy in Budapest has posted a notice that demonstrations are organized to protest a proposed reconstruction of City Park. A march is planned to begin at 13:30 on May 20, 2017. Protesters will march from Erzsébet tér in District 5 (gathering site, starting point of the march on the Pest side) – Andrássy út – Bajza utca – Városligeti fasor – Ötvenhatosok tere in District 14 (static demonstration). About 5,000 people are expected to participate.

Advice

It is expected that these demonstrations will be peaceful, however, to minimize safety risk, avoid all demonstrations and protests. Peaceful situations can quickly and unexpectedly escalate without warning.
