Protests in Cairo, Egypt

Thousands of protesters were in the streets of Cairo today marking the fifth year of the founding of the April 6 Youth Movement, a leading opposition group, and demanding a more inclusive government. Protesters threatened to storm a court building and police responded by firing tear gas. A separate protest took place in al-Fayoum, where eight people were injured.

Travellers should be aware of the ongoing political unrest since the former president was ousted in 2011. Always avoid public gatherings and demonstrations as they can become violent without warning.
