Protests in Sri Lanka become violent

A protest against the creation of an Sri Lankan/Chinese industrial zone near the port city of Hambantota became violent when government supporters armed with clubs attacked protesters organised by the opposition and led by Buddhist monks in Amabalantota, near the proposed site. The number of injured persons is not clear at present. The demonstrators where protesting the use of farmland for the site, as well as the fact that China will have a major role in the project.
