Protests in Togo 20-21 September 2017

The U.S. Embassy in Togo has posted a notice that protest marches are expected in Lome and throughout the country on 20-21 September.

Advice

There could be major road traffic disruptions on these two days in Lome. The three routes most likely to be affected are: (1) Atikoumé Akossombo to Collège Saint-Joseph, (2) Collège Saint-Joseph to Bé Gakpoto, and (3) Agoé Demakpoé to Carrefour BKS – Agoé. Public transportation could be affected as well.

Minimize safety risk by avoiding all areas of large gatherings or demonstrations. Recent protests in Togo have become violent and police have used tear gas.
