Rabies in Andhra Pradesh, India

In the past month, health authorities have reported a total of 13 deaths due to rabies. Health care facilities have treated approximately 13,000 dog bites in the same time period. There are reports of large packs of dogs roaming in villages in this area.

Travellers are reminded that stray dogs and other domestic animals may be a source of exposure to rabies and should avoid all contact with unknown animals. If bitten or scratched, travellers should seek medical care at once.
