Record malaria cases expected in Venezuela

With 31,763 malaria cases reported nationwide, and with 1,583 new cases reported in just 1 week, malaria cases may reach a record high in Venezuela this year. Almost 95 percent of the cases have been reported from the states of Bolívar and Amazonas. Travellers to any region where malaria transmission is occurring can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Anti-malaria medication is recommended.
