Red alert for fog/smog in China

China's national observatory has issued the first ever red fog alert Tuesday in a number of northern and eastern regions. Twenty-four cities, including the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, have published red alerts which is the most serious level in the country's warning system. In many localities, the fog is mixed with heavy smog concentrations. Hundreds of flights were canceled and road and rail transport stopped due to the low visibility.

Advice For Travellers

Travellers with pre-existing respiratory conditions such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, etc., should be cautious and remain indoors, if possible. Check with tour operators for flight and transportation cancellations.
