Red tide persists of coast of Bataan, Philippines

Due to the persistence of a red tide phenomenon off the coast of Bataan, travellers are advised to avoid consuming all shellfish in the areas of Balanga City and the towns of Mariveles, Limay, Orion, Pilar, Abucay, Samal, and Orani.

Red tide is a common name for a phenomenon known as an algal bloom in the ocean. The algae can produce a serious toxin, and humans can become seriously ill from eating oysters and other shellfish contaminated with the toxin.
