Refugees transit from Hungary to Austria

The Hungarian government has eased restrictions on refugees transiting through to Austria and Germany. Some refugees began walking along the M1 highway towards Vienna. Hungarian authorities organized a corridor from Budapest to the Austrian border for about 100 buses to transport people from the Budapest train station, from refugee camps and to pick up those walking on the highway. About 4,000 refugees have arrived at the Austrian border and the number is expected to double today.

Advice For Travellers

The refugee crisis is not expected to impact tourists. However, there could be disruptions to traffic and transportation along the M1 in Hungary and at the arrival areas in Austria.
