Reminder - cholera epidemic continues in Haiti

The cholera epidemic that began in 2010 continues with approximately 500 newly infected people reported every week. So far this year, there have been approximately 25,000 cases nationwide. The lack of basic sanitation facilities continues to facilitate the spread of this infection.

Advice For Travellers

There is a high risk of exposure to cholera in Haiti. Travellers can minimize the risk of exposure to this disease. Strictly observe all food and water precautions in any area where there is cholera. If gastrointestinal symptoms (e.g., vomiting and profuse watery diarrhoea) develop while visiting the affected area, travellers should seek medical care at once.
