REMINDER: Cholera is still a major health risk in Haiti

This year, reports of cholera cases are increasing. There have been 7,833 suspected cases (4,149 in January and 3,684 in February). A total of 72 deaths have been reported. The situation is described as critical in Port-au-Prince, St Marc, Cabaret and Tabarre.

All travellers to any area where cholera has been reported can reduce the risk of exposure to this infection by strictly observing all food and water precautions. If gastrointestinal symptoms (e.g., vomiting and profuse watery diarrhoea) develop while visiting the affected area, travellers should seek medical care at once.

Visit our Health Library for more information on exposure to and the prevention of Cholera.
