Reminder: cholera still a major health risk in Haiti

Another 105 deaths due to cholera were registered in the first 3 months of this year. Although health authorities have declared that the epidemic is under control, there is still a major risk of exposure and infection throughout the country. Since the start of the epidemic 4 years ago, there have been at least 8,700 deaths among the more than 730,000 cases.

Advice For Travellers

All travellers to any area where cholera has been reported can reduce the risk of exposure to this infection by strictly observing all food and water precautions. If gastrointestinal symptoms (e.g., vomiting and profuse watery diarrhoea) develop while visiting the affected area, travellers should seek medical care at once.
