Respiratory virus EV-D68 cases decreasing in US; paralytic illness increases to 88 cases

The number of new Enterovirus D68 cases in the United States are decreasing. So far 47 states and the District of Columbia have reported cases. However, it is possible that more infections with this virus could continue into late fall. Meanwhile, the number of polio-like paralytic illnesses associated with this virus has risen to 88 cases from 37 states.

While this respiratory virus can cause severe flu like illness, travellers can minimize the risk of exposure by following the same precautions as for flu (influenza), e.g., maintaining a small distance (1 meter) from a person with a respiratory illness and frequent hand washing.
