Respiratory virus EV-D68 spreading across Canada

Cases of the unusual respiratory virus EV-D68 have now occurred in Alberta, British Columbia and Ontario. Although the virus generally causes a mild flu-like illness, it may also be severe. The infections are mostly in children, and severe illness is more likely in those with pre-existing asthma or wheezing. The risk of infection can be reduced by following the same simple precautions for flu (influenza), e.g., maintaining a small distance (1 meter) from a person with a respiratory illness and frequent hand washing.
