Ride Tide algae cause illness along Texas coast

An widespread toxic algae bloom (Red Tide) along the Texas coast has shut down oyster harvesting and caused health problems for many nearby residents. The toxin produced by the algae can cause nausea, vomiting and diarrhea in humans and is harmful to fish but is not fatal for humans.

Travellers to this area should avoid consuming oysters.
