Today in the Lukqun township, men with knives attacked a construction site, a local government building and police stations. At least 27 have died, both attackers and police.

Travellers should be aware that deadly clashes have occurred in this area in recent years. China has accused Uighur groups of having ties to Pakistani and Central Asian armed groups and of trying to establish an independent state. Travellers in this region should be aware of activity in their surroundings and avoid public gatherings or protests as violence can break out without warning.
