Roadside bomb kills eight soldiers in southern Thailand

A roadside bomb exploded today killing eight soldiers in the Muslim area of southern Thailand. Reports indicate that so far in 2013, 240 people have been killed and about 460 injured in 800 attacks. Insurgents generally target anyone perceived to represent the government, such as security and government personnel, including teachers, however, civilians have also been killed.

Travellers should be aware of the ongoing civil unrest in these southern areas of Thailand. Many countries warn citizens to avoid travel to these areas.
