Salmonella outbreak in four Canadian provinces

There have been 44 cases of salmonella bacteria infections (salmonellosis) reported by 4 provinces, Ontario (28 cases), Quebec (12 cases), and Nova Scotia and Newfoundland (2 cases each). Twelve people were hospitalized. Based on the investigation findings to date, exposure to frozen raw breaded chicken products that were not properly prepared is the source of illness.

Advice For Travellers

While the risk for most travellers is very low, proper preparation and thorough cooking of frozen food products will help avoid illness. Proper hand washing after handling raw chicken products will reduce contamination with salmonella bacteria.
