Saudi Arabia issues recommendations for avoiding MERS coronavirus during Hajj

Health officials in Saudi Arabia recommend that pilgrims visiting its holy sites wear masks in crowded places to prevent the spread of the MERS coronavirus. Elderly people or those with chronic diseases are asked to postpone their pilgrimage. Pilgrims are also asked to maintain personal hygiene standards, use a tissue when sneezing and coughing, and have the necessary vaccinations.

The World Health Organization has so far confirmed of a total of 80 cases of MERS coronavirus infection, including 44 deaths worldwide. Most of the cases and deaths have occurred in Saudi Arabia.
