Sausage contaminated with botulism kills 2 and sickens 12 in Alto Piquiri, Paraná, Brazil

Health authorities have recalled a sausage product produced by an unidentified producer in Alto Piquiri in Northwest Paraná after 2 deaths and 12 suspected cases of botulism were reported as a result of consumption on the product.

Botulism causes severe paralysis due to a toxim produced by Clostridium bacteria. If paralytic symptoms (usually beginning as tingling in extremities) appear, immediate medical attention is required.
