Schistosomiasis in Corsica, France

At least 100 tourist that visited Corsica were infected with schistosomiasis when they were exposed to the waters of the Cavu River. The local snails that can carry the parasite in this river system became infected with this parasite that apparently originated in Senegal and was introduced by a traveller from that country.

The risk of exposure for the general traveller is very low as long as exposure to the Cavu River is avoided.
