Seasonal flu infections increasing in northern hemisphere

With the arrival of the winter season in the northern hemisphere, the World Health Organization has reported that seasonal flu (influenza) infections are increasing in North America where more intense transmission of the A(H3N2) virus is expected. In Europe, virus activity remains low at this time, but in eastern Asia, overall influenza activity continues to increase.

Maintaining a small distance (1 meter) from a person with a respiratory illness and frequent hand washing will help reduce the risk of infection. This year, due to mutations in the major flu strain, there is a slight mismatch with the available vaccine. Nevertheless, the current vaccine still provides reasonable protection against the currently circulating influenza viruses.
