Second day of civil unrest in China against Japan's acquisition of disputed islands

For the second day, demonstrations turned violent in Beijing and other cities as demonstrators protested the acquisition of off-shore islands by Japan. Police had to use tear gas, water cannons, and pepper spray to disperse demonstrators as they threw rocks, eggs and bottles at the Japanese embassy and looted Japanese property. Travellers should exercise caution and avoid all public and political demonstrations since they may become violent without notice.
