Sectarian massacre in South Sudan

There are reports of a major sectarian-related massacre in Bentiu in South Sudan. Masses of bodies were found in the streets, in the hospital and in a mosque where 200 people were killed. Rebel soldiers are being blamed for the attack, but spokesmen have denied it. The UN earlier said that rebels slaughtered hundreds of civilians when they seized the town, the capital of Unity State, last week. People seeking protection at the UN camp in Bentiu has grown from 8,000 to more than 22,000 in two weeks.

Travellers are advised to avoid all travel to South Sudan at this time due to armed conflict and political turmoil.
