Security alert for election day in Haiti on August 9, 2015

In Haiti on August 9, national parliamentary elections will be held across the country. Violence sometimes occurs on election days, and safety and security is a concern. The U.N. Stabilization Mission has been working to strengthen the Haitian National Police to provide adequate security for citizens on August 9.

Advice For Travellers

Expect additional security checks. Vehicles may be subject to additional restrictions. The southeast area of Haiti, as well as the Artibonite Valley, Grand’Anse, and the Central Plateau are identified as high risk regions on voting day.

Those in Haiti should exercise caution and restrict travel or unnecessary movement on election day. Avoid any large crowds or rallies.
