Security alert for Malawi

The U.K. government has posted a security alert that, following the violence in the Mount Mulanie areas, tension and civil unrest is spreading to rural and township areas of the Blantyre, Zomba and Nsanje districts. There were also reports of civil unrest on the Chileka Road, which is the main route to the airport from Blantyre.

Be extremely cautious in these areas, particularly after dark. Avoid any large public gatherings of people or demonstrations. Follow the advice of local security authorities.
