Seventeen municipalities at epidemic levels of dengue in Ceará, Brazil

Almost 8,000 cases of dengue fever have been reported statewide this year. There have been 9 deaths, 3 of whom occurred in the past week. At least 17 municipalities are at epidemic levels of dengue (Alcântaras, Arneiroz, Barbalha, Catarina, Coreaú, Eusébio, Hidrolândia, Ipu, Jardim, Jucás, Mucambo, Ocara, Piquet Carneiro, Pires Ferreira, Porteiras, São Gonçalo do Amarante and Trairi).

Advice For Travellers

Travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever do not seek medical care and are not reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community than the reports indicate.
