Severe cholera outbreak in Chad is the worst ever

Health authorities have reported that the country is facing its worst epidemic of cholera ever. Since the beginning of 2011, a total of 11,000 cases have been detected with 340 deaths. If agressive control measures are not started, it is estimated that there will be about 10,000 more new cases by the end of October. Currently, about 1,00 cases per week are being recorded.

Travellers to this country should be aware of the risk of exposure to cholera and take all necessary precautions to avoid consuming contaminated food and water.
