Severe devastation emerging after huge earthquake off Guatemala's Pacific Coast (update)

The 7.4-magnitude quake that hit off the Pacific Coast of Guatemala has affected 1.2 million people, killed more than 50 and damaged over 2,200 homes and seven schools in the San Marcos, Huehuetenango, Quetzaltenango and Quiché Departments. Many people have sought shelter in temporary facilities. There is a lack of water, electricity and communication in many rural areas. Travellers should avoid travelling in the affected areas since essential services, including transportation, appear to be severely disrupted.
