Severe drought threatens agriculture in SE Asia

Below average rainfall has created the worst drought in Vietnam in the last 100 years. The Mekong River is at its lowest level since 1926. Drought is also affecting agriculture in neighbouring Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Myanmar.

Advice For Travellers

Travellers should be aware that water shortages and droughts often result in bacterial contamination of existing water supplies. To avoid gastrointestinal illness, travellers in these countries should follow strict water precautions.
