Severe heat wave causes deaths in India

At least 500 people have died from sun stroke and dehydration during the current heat wave (up to 42C) that has struck in southern India. The majority of the deaths have occurred in two states, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Similar conditions are predicted for the next 2 weeks. Power failures have cut access to air conditioning.

Government officials advised the population not to venture out between 11 AM and 4 PM.
