Severe rains and flooding displace thousands in Dominican Republic

Emergency authorities have reported that 12,365 people have been displaced and more than 3,000 homes have been destroyed due to flooding after torrential rains fell across the northern part of the country during the past three days. The most affected provinces include: Montecristi, Dajabon, Santiago Rodriguez, Valverde, Puerto Plata, Espaillat, Maria Trinidad Sanchez and Samana. Travellers should exercise caution and consult local emergency reports before travelling in the affected areas. Essential services, including transportation, may be seriously disrupted.
