Sharjah Police, UAE, warn public about counterfeit currency

Sharjah Police in the United Arab Emirates have warned the public that counterfeit money is in circulation. They ask that any counterfeit currency be reported to the police.

Advice

It is difficult to detect counterfeit currency. If the banknote is fake, the portrait will be dull or blurred, not well defined and sharp. The fake note will be slightly thicker and will feel like photocopied paper, while the genuine banknote will feel smoother and have an embossed texture. Also, hold the banknote up to the light. Then check the watermark, which should have exactly the same image of the portrait on the bill. Also, look for a security thread running from top to bottom, either embedded or threaded through the paper.
