Shigellosis outbreak in New Mexico, USA, under investigation

Since May, a total of 140 confirmed and probable cases of shigellosis have been identified in the three southeastern counties (Lea, Chaves, and Eddy counties). Initially, the disease affected mostly preschool and school-aged children. However, recent data indicate that the infection has begun to affect a wider community.
