Significant increase in malaria cases in Anapu in Para State in Brazil

Health officials have noted a significant increase in the number of laboratory confirmed cases of malaria in the Anapu area. Approximately 16 cases are diagnosed each day with nearly 600 cases reported in the first 2 months of this year.

Travellers to this region can reduce their risk of exposure to malaria by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Anti-malaria medication is recommended.
