Significant increase in reported dengue fever cases suggest Paraguay will face serious epidemic

With 481 confirmed cases of dengue fever reported so far this year, health authorities fear that there will be a major epidemic of this disease this year. Approximately half the cases have been reported from the capital city of Asunción .

Travellers to Paraguay can reduce their risk of exposure to dengue fever virus by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever may not seek medical care and may not be reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community that are not reported.
