Slight decrease in cholera in Katanga Province, Democratic Republic of the Congo

There have been 249 deaths among the 8,700 reported cases of cholera this year in Katanga Province. Although there has been a slight decrease in the number of reported cases this year, there is still a major risk throughout the province. All travellers to any area where cholera has been reported can reduce the risk of exposure to this infection by strictly observing all food and water precautions. If gastrointestinal symptoms (e.g., vomiting and profuse watery diarrhoea) develop while visiting the affected area, travellers should seek medical care at once.
