Slight increase in number of reported cases of West Nile virus in USA

Over the last 2 weeks, the number of reported cases of West Nile fever have increase by a little more than 100 cases nationwide. So far, 47 states and the District of Columbia have reported 2,002 cases and 76 deaths. The onset of winter and lower temperatures will decrease the mosquito population and the transmission of this virus.

Travellers in warmer areas where mosquitoes with this virus may still be active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
