Slight increase in reported cholera in Mexico

Sporadic cases of cholera continue to be reported in Mexico. With 4 new cases (2 in Hidalgo and 2 in Veracruz), the total number of cases has increased to 180. Most of the cases (159) have occurred in the state of Hidalgo. Travellers to any area where cholera has been reported can reduce the risk of exposure to this infection by strictly observing all food and water precautions. If gastrointestinal symptoms (e.g., vomiting and profuse watery diarrhoea) develop while visiting the affected area, travellers should seek medical care at once.
