Small outbreak of malaria in area of greater Belém, Brazil

In one week, there were 33 cases of malaria in Ananindeua, a community in the greater Belém area. Control measures are being implemented. Malaria levels in this area are usually very low. However, travellers to this region can reduce their risk of exposure to malaria by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. If staying in Belém, anti-malaria medication is not necessary.
