Small protest by journalists in Burundi met with tear gas

Police in Bujumbura used tear gas to disperse about 90 journalists who were protesting against the detention of a colleague. Police claimed force was necessary since the demonstration was deemed illegal. Some countries advise their citizens to reconsider travelling to Burundi at this time. Regardless, travellers should always exercise caution and avoid all public and political demonstrations since they may become violent without warning.
