Some signs that dengue fever cases in the Domincan Republic are decreasing (update)

In the last week, fewer cases of dengue fever were reported to health authorities compared to the previous week. However, there were 7 deaths reported. This may be the beginning of a decreasing trend. The most affected areas at present include Santo Domingo, San Cristóbal, Santiago and the National District. Due to incomplete reporting, lack of access to health care in some areas, and the fact that many persons with dengue fever may not seek medical care and be reported to health authorities, there still may be many more cases in the community than are reported. Travellers to these areas can reduce their risk of exposure to dengue fever virus by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
