South African Airlines technicians stage sudden strike for higher wages

Approximately 1,300 aircraft maintenance technicians with South African Airlines have begun a strike for higher wages. These technicians are also used to repair and service aircraft of other domestic and international carriers, including British Airways and Qantas. Picket lines are set up at O.R. Tambo International Airport near the city of Johannesburg, but it is unclear at this time if general operations will be affected. Travellers should check with their airlines for any interruptions in service.
