Sporadic cases and mini outbreaks of measles in several countries

Sporadic cases and mini outbreaks of measles are being reported by the following countries (localities):

• USA (Minnesota, Hawaii) - 20 outbreaks and 603 individual cases of measles in 22 states this year
• Pakistan (Balochistan, Khyber) - 16 deaths in Balochistan; in Khyber, 2 infant deaths and epidemics in Morga, Madi Khel, Ghbargi Khel and Shegi Khel
• Australia (Queensland)

Outbreaks of measles can occur frequently anywhere in the world at any time. Unvaccinated travellers often spread the disease when they return to their countries. Travellers can reduce their risk of exposure to measles virus by ensuring that their childhood vaccinations, including measles, are up-to-date prior to travelling.
