Sporadic cases of avian respiratory virus H7N9 continue in China

Sporadic cases of the potentially serious avian respiratory virus H7N9 continue to be reported across China, but mostly from Guangdong Province. Since the virus was first found, there have been 573 human cases of this avian influenza virus. Most of the cases have occurred in Guangdong, Zhejiang, Jiangsu and Fujian. There have been 50 or fewer cases in the provinces of Shanghai, Hunan, Anhui, Xinjiang, Jiangxi, Shandong, Beijing, Henan, Guangxi, Jilin, Guizhou, and Hebei.

While the risk of exposure is low, travellers to China should avoid visiting live poultry markets where this and other strains of avian flu might be circulating.
