Sporadic cases of leishmaniasis reported in Piauí, Brazil

Sporadic cases of leishmaniasis (visceral type) occur in the state of Piauí. Of the 10 reported cases this year, 7 cases and 1 death have occurred in the municipality of Floriano.

Although the risk for the general traveller is low, travellers to this region can reduce their risk of exposure to leishmaniasis by taking all necessary precautions to avoid sand fly bites.
